Field Trip to Sheboygan County Historical Museum

A few weeks ago we all enjoyed a pioneer themed field trip to the
Sheboygan County Historical Museum.
The kids learned a lot and enjoyed themselves.

practicing how to make kindling

learning how to make beeswax or tallow candles

running a hand pump

learning how to keep a cast iron stove stoked, cook on cast iron pans, iron clothing, and keep tea water warm

running a spinning wheel

carrying water

a bucket brigade
learning and lighting gas lamps and candle boxes

learning how the pioneers grew, dried, preserved and ground and cook with their own foods

getting a tour of the grand house of an 18th century lawyer

dipping beeswax candles

learning about the grand home

making shaving soap using mugs, brushes, and small amounts of soap and water

learning how to light a flint and stone spark without matches
